(W4) Advancing Patient Care and Demonstrating Value in Specialty Pharmacy Using Technology and Data-Driven Quality Improvement Solutions

High-cost specialty medications represent a significant portion of managed care prescription spending and require focused efforts to ensure the benefit of these costly therapies is realized. As a result, specialty pharmacies are responsible for driving quality in specialty medication use and reducing potential gaps in the patient journey. The complexities and monitoring requirements of specialty medications require focused programs to improve patient monitoring capabilities, optimize specialty pharmacy efficiency, and reduce medication and financial waste using innovative and scalable solutions.

This session will describe the development, implementation, and outcomes of dedicating resources within an integrated health system specialty pharmacy to identify and reduce gaps in the specialty patient journey through patient care improvement projects. Specific case examples highlighted in this session will provide a novel insight on how to develop focused quality improvement efforts including resources, personnel training, and project generation, execution, and evaluation.
