Dr. Kathleen Shoemaker has over 20 years of award-winning experience as an administrator and pharmacist. She has developed expert knowledge in healthcare, including the history, payer strategies, outcomes & research, Medicare, Quality, Health IT, and continuing professional development. Her unique and powerful combination of experience in the public and private sectors has given her a rare advantageous perspective supporting her healthcare delivery authority. In her career, Kathleen has served as a managed care pharmacy director and clinical manager at regional health plans, as a payer strategy expert for Eli Lilly, as a registry and research leader for the American Heart Association, and as a top account and sales leader at Premier. As a pharmacist, Kathleen has also practiced extensively in long-term hospital care and retail pharmacies as a pharmacist and immunizer.
Kathleen has been a member of AMCP since 1998. She has served in many leadership roles in education and membership committees, and as a Butler University School of Pharmacy diplomat. Kathleen served with the combined FAMCP/AMCP Research Committee to develop and set the research agenda. She is currently on the Legislative and Regulatory Advocacy Committee. Kathleen has judged posters, mentored students, and was a preceptor for many combined degree candidates at Lilly. For the state pharmacy association, Kathleen set up an AMCP Affiliated Council.
Kathleen Shoemaker has a Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Illinois, a master's degree in Business Administration from Eastern Illinois University, and a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from North Dakota State University. She is certified in AMCP's Comparative Effectiveness Research and is a Certified Professional in Health Information Management (CPHIMS). She has published and presented in state and national venues.
As a retiree, Kathleen shares her time and talent as a volunteer. Kathleen is the Board Chair and Trustee for Bone Health and Osteoporosis Foundation. She is also an examiner for the Malcolm Baldridge Award process. Kathleen volunteers for the Indiana Pharmacy Association and recently set up a PAC. She also volunteers at her church and as a voting poll worker. Kathleen enjoys horseback riding, running, beekeeping, gardening, and skiing. She is an avid sports fan and lives with her retired husband, Mike, in the Indianapolis area.
